The power of money

The power of money is creative. You don't have to have as much as Bill Gates to experience that power. You only have to have a little more power-a little more money-than others. In a relationship or in a friendship group, there are subtle things. For example, people will often defer to you. They'll ask where you want to go to dinner. If you're part of a faith community and you're a donor, you may be treated differently than if you aren't. In our culture, the power of money is the power to set the agenda. To not recognize and lay that on the table is naïve. And it is wasting opportunity.
Money is a power source, like electricity, which can be used for good, but which can be fatal if mishandled. You can use money to open up opportunities, to create things, to heal, to create linkages. You can also use it to shut down access, to manipulate, to cause people great harm. Once you realize you have money and money is a power source, you can choose how to use it. 2.8 billion people in the world live on less than two dollars a day. For those of us with money, what does it mean to create goodness in an atmosphere like that? For some, the answer might be charitable giving. For others, it might be starting your own business. One thing I know: when you use money to create goodness, it is a moment of astonishing joy.

Pistorius' girlfriend killed on Valentine's Day

(CNN) -- South African model Reeva Steenkamp was looking forward to Valentine's Day.

"What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow?" the 29-year-old asked her thousands of followers on Twitter a day before. "Get excited."

Steenkamp was killed early Thursday in a shooting at the Pretoria home of Olympian Oscar Pistorius, her boyfriend.

He has been charged with murder. In keeping with South African law, Pistorius will be named officially as the suspect when he appears in court Friday.

 Pistorius spokeswoman Kate Silvers said the athlete is "assisting the police with their investigation but there will be no further comment until matters become clearer later today."

Pistorius, nicknamed the "Blade Runner," made history when he became the first Paralympian to compete in the able-bodied Olympics last year. He ran on special carbon fiber blades affixed to his legs, which were amputated below the knees as a toddler because of a bone defect.

Asteroid to swing by earth on february 15, 2013

On February 15 an asteroid named 2012 DA14 will swing within just 17,200 miles of the planet’s surface, which is well within the orbit of the man-made geosynchronous satellites that orbit the Earth. By coming within just one-thirteenth the distance from the Earth to the moon, the asteroid will set a record for close approach by an object of its size.
A company namely Deep Space Industries (DSI) wants to develop the technology to mine Asteroids made the somewhat melancholic estimate that DA14 could contain metals and propellant worth as much as $195 billion. Since the asteroid will fly by the Earth traveling at 17,400 miles per hour, however, it isn’t practical to mine.
NASA has estimated that DA14 is only about 150 feet across, but DSI believes that is still big enough to be worth billions. DSI “experts” estimate that if 10% of the asteroid were made of minable metals, they could be worth $130 billion. If another 5% of the asteroid could be mined for water, it could be used as $65 billion worth of rocket fuel in space.
DSI is hoping to begin space mining around the year 2020. In the meantime, the company will be sending “FireFly” probes to examine asteroids, and later “DragonFly” probes that will take samples of the asteroid.
NASA will also be sending probes to investigate asteroids before 2020. In 2016, the agency will launch the OSIRIS-REx probe, which will visit the Earth-threatening asteroid 1999 RQ36.

Earthquake in jamaica

Jamaica is due to experience an earthquake on the same scale as one that sank a section of Port Royal more than 300 years ago, according to the Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies.
There have been some calculations about 144 years after the 1904, some about 84 (years), but it's really not accurate It is believed that there are cycles but no one knows the recurrent intervals. Some calculations have been done based on the history of earthquakes, so any calculations that have been done or any recurrent interval that is calculated is just based on a short history. i believe jamaica is not prepared to manage anything of the magnitude that hit the island in 1692, which claimed the lives of more than 3,000 people. Also on the 10th of February 2013 about 6:05 on the western end of Jamaica felt three tremors so only time will tell as to how serious it will get.

Grammy 2013

A total of 28.1 million Americans watched this year's broadcast, although the figure was down 30% on last year. The 2012 ceremony, in which stars paid tribute to Whitney Houston, who had died a day earlier, won a US television audience of 39.9 million. Sunday's show saw awards for Adele, The Black Keys, Fun and Gotye, with the coveted album of the year prize going to British band Mumford and Sons.
The Grammys TV audience has risen steadily since organisers decided to focus on performances over speeches. It now outpaces the Emmys and Golden Globes, but comes second to the Oscars, which traditionally scores an audience of more than 30 million. All of the awards shows are dwarfed by the Super Bowl, however. Beyonce's recent half-time performance was seen by 108 million people in America alone, with the peak audience of 164.1 million for the match itself.

Child abuse in jamaica

We need to build a culture of child protection from abuse in our families, communities, and institutions such as churches and schools. We have to empower children and their families to choose paths that protect, nurture children and give them positive reinforcements for a successful life, i am appalled at the levels and kind of abuse that face the nation’s children, including heinous acts of sexual abuse. Neglect is the main form of child abuse in Jamaica, with an estimated 1,880 cases reported each year it has also risen to as much as 2,300 in 2011. The Office of the Children's Registry (OCR)reports that there have been more than 11,000 cases of child neglect reported to that organization since it was formed in 2007. The child abuse prevention should be a personal and collective campaign every parent, guardian, sibling, caregiver, neighbour, community member, to allow our children to be loved, cared for and protected. I am definitely an advocate of reporting instances of child abuse and punishing persons, who are guilty of abusing children, but the main thing is to ensure that such abuse is prevented; to stop it from happening in the first place. I cant understand how a man can molest a child and these perverts are only punished by going to jail and then a few years later they are out roaming the streets again. I know for a fact that some people are falsely accused of these cases but for those who are caught in the act or with solid proof of sexual assault and other abuse, they should be severely punished.

Supreme Ventures Limited says a Jamaican has hit the Super Lotto Jackpot draw in the amount of Ja.$311 m.The ticket holder, who purchased $150 ticket, won the split price amount of the super lotto jackpot with the numbers: 1, 3, 5, 7, 16 and super ball 10.This super lotto player has won $186.6 million.The lucky winner will be required to claim his/her prize in Jamaica at the Supreme Ventures Corporate Office.Supreme Ventures says it will provide information on the winner as soon as the prize is claimed. Now although some people have won this and claim their prize i believe most lotto if not all is a scam and what i mean by this is that the bigger heads control when the lotto is to be won with these magnetic balls.....yeah its real. These people know that its hard to win so when they decide when the lotto should be won no one can easily pick up the scam. I noticed that the only time people really win is when the prize is real high. All they do is trick the poor into believing in this garbage, poor people need to use their brain and spend their money wisely its like the lotto controls people just like fast food "quick and easy". These are their favorite tag line "A ticket to your dream" " without a ticket you dont stand a chance ". They also have this cash pot thing with numbers and their meanings .......GARBAGE. Just tricking people in spending their money three times a day and although people win on a daily basis they also lose ALOT. So a million people play and 1000 win who are the losers here, the gambling companies are just scamming people but this is something from Jesus days so it will never change. .
