Minimum Wage increase in Jamaica

The national minimum wage was increased from $4,500 to $5,000 per 40-hour work week in september 2012. It was first announced by Labour of Social Security Minister, Hon. Derrick Kellier, during his contribution to the 2012/13 Sectoral Debate in Gordon House. He said the 11 per cent increase is as a result of recommendations from the Minimum Wage Advisory Commission. Also the minimum wage for industrial security guards, was increased to $7, 320.50 per 40- hour work week, representing an increase of 10 per cent. I strongly believe it a so called attempt at trying to improve the capacity for productivity improvement in workers of all categories.
The new rates for industrial security guards;
laundry allowance was increased from $30.25 to$ 33.30 per hour; firearm allowance was raised to $36.60 per hour, up from $33.28; and dog holder’s allowance was increased from $22.39 to $24.63 per hour. Life insurance remains at $2 million double indemnity. Although this is better than before, is this really enough???????????

Exciting gadgets 2013

iPhone 5S

As per usual, it is expected that Apple will release an "S" update before moving up an integer. it will probably come with a new "super HD camera/screen, a better battery and NFC [near field communication - used in such things as contactless payment systems]". He also claims that, like the Nano, the phone will be available in six to eight colours.

Apple iTV

There has been speculation for some years that Apple would make a land grab for the TV market.  turning on a TV is like going "backwards in time by 20 or 30 years". That is, like the music and phone industry previously, it's in need of an Apple update.
XBOX720
The long-awaited follow-up to the Xbox 360, rumoured to be called the Infinity. Like the Kinect, the console will use motion detection technology and T3 recently revealed that Microsoft had filed a patent concerning projecting augmented reality 3D images on walls, which would require you to wear Wi-Fi-enabled 3D glasses. May also include a Blu-ray drive

Amazon phone

The internet giant is said to be adding a phone to its range of Kindle readers. Don't expect any revolutionary hardware, but the software will allow seamless integration between Amazon's Appstore, Amazon MP3, Amazon Cloud Player and Kindle books. In short, it will be more of an multipurpose Amazon revenue-generating device than a phone. it's likely to be cheap. This is because Amazon is expected to subsidise the cost of the handset and the monthly price plan using the revenue from the vast amount of Amazon media, electronics and whatnot you are inevitably going to purchase with it. It is also likely to come pre-loaded with a bar code scanner, which will point out how much cheaper everything is on Amazon.

The Inauguration of Barack Obama 2013

Obama wants to complete the Great Society project of such progressive forefathers as both Roosevelts and Lyndon Johnson, and make it sustainable in an America that faces unprecedented global competition.
Mr Obama's inaugural speech, delivered this morning beneath a bright, chilly Washington sky, offered a remarkably stark answer. He plans to confront Republicans, co-opt their most cherished beliefs about American exceptionalism and individualism, gays, the young, immigrants and environmentalists.
Though the speech rang with references to national unity, the founding fathers and the ties that bind Americans, it was a deeply partisan piece of work. In his second term, Mr Obama's big tent will be held up by Democratic ropes and stays. Those who insist on remaining outside, it was easy to conclude, risk feeling very cold indeed. The sight of the president on giant screens down the National Mall sent up a roar from the crowd that made hair stand on end. Mr Obama took that applause, and sought to harness it. Inauguration speeches are often hailed as moments to reach across partisan divides, and make peace after the bruising fights of the election just ended.
At the very start of his inaugural address, he offered a definition of what it means to be American: an allegiance to the idea of equal creation and unalienable rights articulated in the opening lines of Jefferson's Declaration of Independence. It was hard not to hear a direct challenge to the argument set out by Mitt Romney, his vanquished Republican foe, and the Republicans' vice-presidential running-mate, Paul Ryan. It was Mr Ryan who, on the day that he joined the presidential ticket, galvanised American conservatives with his declaration that America was unique in being a country "founded on an idea", namely that:
Our rights come from nature and God, not government. We promise equal opportunity, not equal outcomes. This idea is founded on the principles of liberty, freedom, free enterprise, self-determination and government by consent of the governed
The president bowed to core conservative beliefs about American exceptional ism, conceding that he governs a people skeptical of central authority, disdainful of the "fiction" that society's ills can be cured by government alone, and unusually insistent that it is an American's duty to seek success through hard work, personal responsibility and a dose of risk-taking.
He went on to list some concrete consequences that flow from his vision of a communal action as an enabler of American individualism. In a canter through big agenda items for his second term, that will be spelled out in more detail in his February state-of-the-union address, Mr Obama talked of action on climate change (chiding those who "still deny the overwhelming judgment of science" on global warming) and action to make America a leader in sustainable energy production. He committed himself to seeking diplomatic solutions to security crises, and ran through a veritable to-do list of Democratic ambitions, from equal pay for women to gay equality, comprehensive immigration reform and (through a coy reference to Newtown in Connecticut) to action on gun violence. Mr Obama was directly challenging the core beliefs of today's Republican Party. Even that throwaway mention of those receiving help from government not being "takers" was a swipe at Mr Romney and his secretly-recorded comments about the Democratic base being the 47% of the population who pay no federal income taxes (and who are thus "takers", in the jargon of the American right, leeching on the nation's hard-working "makers"). From the backhand slap for climate-change deniers, to the rebuke of "absolutism", Mr Obama was attacking congressional Republicans, notably in the House of Representatives, and their entire conception of their role in a divided government. He gave Republicans almost no ground, making the briefest of references to their defining concern, the nation's deficit spending.
Perhaps confrontation will prove to be a fruitful strategy. Mr Obama's supporters would point to his first term, and the serial obstructionism of Republicans in Congress, and argue that the president has no choice but to come out fighting, as he seeks to achieve anything in his final few years in office. It was great to see Mr Obama sketch out his vision of how individualism and American risk-taking need a progressive safety net to thrive. That will be a potent argument for Democrats to promote in future elections, as they seek to occupy the centre ground of politics and corral Republicans on the political fringes.

Crime in Jamaica & tourism

There is much controversy on whether or not crime is a major concern for tourists to Jamaica. In this article i will take no sides on the issue because there isn't enough facts to prove one way or the other. Whether deserved or not, Jamaica is generally depicted as having a high crime rate, particularly in certain neighborhoods of its larger cities such as in kingston and montego bay. Jamaican authorities and tourism bureaus claim that the crime rates in Jamaica are not significantly different than in most other countries which is 100% true because not only is other countries crime rate higher but most crimes cases are not sent to the media.  crime is a serious problem but not only in Jamaica i can also remember a number of cases where tourist had problems with bandits in another country on a regular basis i wont state the name just to stay on point. Although violence is not confined, the vast majority of crimes occur in Jamaica's impoverished areas which we call the ghetto and tourism are not in there areas...... some media outlets say the primary concern of vacationers is becoming a victim of theft and they also feel that the Jamaican police are understaffed which i dont believe and relatively ineffective(quite true). Tourist should Avoid visiting the inner-city areas where crime is more prevalent and these tour buses also need to be properly secure, i cant recall seeing a security on a tour bus. Bags and valuables should never be left unattended and avoid wearing expensive jewelry on the streets and beaches. Do not handle large amounts of cash in public view. Avoid traveling alone, particularly at night and stay in well-lit areas. If these precautionary measures are implemented i am sure tourist will have less problems in jamaica and not only will jamaica be more respected but more tourist will visit.

A brief overview of education in jamaica

Education in Jamaica starts at the tender age of 2 years old for most. It is said that the foundation of education system lies within early childhood which some call Basic or Infant School. This theory is sometimes argued but I'll go in-dept a next time. Most schools accept children from between ages three years to three years and six months. Others may take them as young as 2 years old. Children at Basic or Infant school age usually attend from age 3 – 5 years. Some Day Care Centers, in addition to giving child care, they also offer limited childhood education which prepares them for Basic or Infant School. Next we have Primary education which prepares children for Secondary Education and starts at Grade 1 for 6 year olds, to Grade 6 for 12 or 13 year old now although over a decade ago 11 year old children where graduating primary schools once they pass their common entrance exams.
Next there is high school - Students are exposed to a lot more subjects in Secondary education in Jamaica.
For most students, this is where they are introduced, for the first time to a foreign language. But Secondary education is the stepping stone and the foundation to students’ future career and further education. By the time students reach the fourth form or 10th grade they are already planning college majors, career goals etc

Three of jamaicas main dishes

http://www.newnusedlink.com
Ackee & Saltfish - The National Dish consists mainly of Ackee and Saltfish. Ackee is a bright red fruit that, when ripened, bursts open to reveal three black seeds and a bright yellow flesh. The flesh of this fruit is used in Jamaican dishes. The National Dish is considered common breakfast food and is oftentimes served with roasted breadfruit and boiled bananas etc.

Curry - The Indian influence in Jamaica is most notably in their curry dishes. Jamaicans prepare and serve a wide variety of curry dishes including chicken, goat, vegetables and even fruits. The curried chicken is sometimes served with dumplings and there is also an annual curry festival in westmoreland where almost everything involves curry.

Jamaican Soup or Manish water is more popularly known as “Power Water” or “goat belly soup”. This popular broth is commonly served when there are celebrations or large gatherings. It is also commonly served at traditional events.

starting a company in jamaica

 http://www.newnusedlink.com
In this post i have a detailed summary of what entrepreneurs wishing to incorporate and register a new business in Jamaica have to do. It examines the procedures & time involved in launching a commercial or industrial firm.
1) Ascertain from the Registrar of Companies whether the desired name is available and acceptable
2) Have company documents stamped by the Stamp Commissioner
The documents must be duly stamped by the Stamp Commissioner before being filed with the Registrar of Companies.
3) File the company deeds to the Registrar of Companies
Only a single document, the articles of incorporation, is now required to constitute a company. Previously, both the memorandum of association and the articles of association had to be filed with the Registrar of Companies. The rationale for this new requirement is that because the Companies Act, 2004 abolished the doctrine of ultra vires and because companies now have the same legal capacity as individuals, there is no need to set out the company’s objectives in its memorandum of association. Articles may be prepared according to the model set out in Table A in the First Schedule of the Companies Act.
Within 3-4 days, the Registrar of Companies, if satisfied that all is in order, will issue the certificate of incorporation and assign the company a designated company number. A notice of appointment of company secretary, including particulars of directors, must be filed within 14 days.
4) Obtain national insurance scheme (NIS) reference number from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security  As of January 2012, Employers are required to file all annual returns affecting NIS, NHT, Education Tax and/or PAYE Income Tax for 2011 and onwards using the SO2 Form which replaces the following:
5) Obtain taxpayer registration number (TRN) from Collector of Taxes
The taxpayer registration number (TRN) is a unique taxpayer identfication number and is used for the payment of governement taxes and duties including income tax. Income tax returns are to be filed annually by March 15. The TRN must be affixed to all written communications to all revenue departments.

Documents to be submitted are the following:

1. Completed application for TRN Number Organisations
2. NIS number or clearance letter confirming that the company is not yet liable to National Insurance.
3. Certified copy of Articles of Incorporation
4. Certified copy of Certificate of Incorporation
5. TRN of Directors (or at least one Director)
6. Authorisation letter if the TRN application is being made by a third party

Jamaica

http://www.newnusedlink.com
Jamaica is the third largest of the Caribbean islands, and the largest English-speaking island in the Caribbean Sea. Situated 90 miles south of Cuba, 600 miles south of Florida, USA, and 100 miles south-west of Haiti, Jamaica is approximately 146 miles long, 51 miles wide, and has an area of 4,411 square miles. The capital, Kingston, is the largest city and is located in the south-eastern part of the island. It is said that the island's name, Jamaica, is derived from the Arawak word Xaymaca, which probably means "land of wood and water" or "land of springs". Although the official language is English, most Jamaicans speak an English-based dialect which is known as patois. Jamaica's multi-racial population of approximately 2.6 million, is predominantly of African, European, East Indian and Chinese heritage. Jamaica's motto - "Out of Many, One People" is based on the multi-racial roots. The country gained independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain on 1962 August 6. At Independence, Jamaica became a member of the Commonwealth, with Queen Elizabeth II as Head of State. The Queen is represented in Jamaica by the Governor-General.

Reason Men cheat

i talked about the ladies the other day now its the men
Men love to know that they are king of their castle, the greatest lion in the jungle. They wrestle inside themselves for recognition and appreciation. They rarely do anything for free. They always want a smile, a wink, a hug, or some sexual gesture, you are incredible moment, because it shows that they are appreciated. They don’t depend on their money or their status to give them this feeling, but rather, they depend on the women they fall in love with. At some point they are going to let their wife into the struggles they face and the better she is at navigating conversation that gets to that place, the better off their relationship will be. When a woman feels that a man doesn’t need to be appreciated or that she should not have to do that for him, she will become like a nagging fly to him and he would rather live on the rooftop or in a desert than to live with a woman who doesn’t know how to appreciate him. When men don’t feel appreciated, it makes them feel insecure. And when they feel insecure, they start to get confused about who’s on their side and what their purpose and responsibilities are to the people on their team. Although most men tend to be rough and tough they are very emotional and have a very difficult time managing their emotions. So men want to connect at deep emotional levels that most women probably can’t handle. Some men actually have said that their wives could not handle their emotions, so they don’t even go there, but they need it so bad. Most of their extramarital affairs did not start with sex or attraction, but rather with deep emotional connections and emotional fulfillment. Men live for that. They need someone to reach them there and help them make sense of manhood. Again, they depend on their wives to do this.
Finally, its all about choice.  Men who cheat make the decision to do so, which is not always an easy decision. The more they love their wives and value their reputation and their faith, the more difficult it is to cheat. But the desperate needs of manhood are so vitally powerful that 1 in every 3 men eventually makes the choice to cheat.http://www.newnusedlink.com

Wealth

 http://www.newnusedlink.com
Everywhere you look in the world there is proof that the single-minded pursuit of wealth often leads smart people to do unusual things,  things that destroy what money can't buy. Every time I read about wealthy people I ask myself the same questions. How is it that brilliant people with more money than they'll ever need allow their hunger for even more money to cause them to lose everything? How much is enough, and why are people willing to risk so much to get more? It has great power to bring people together as well as tear them apart. You can't escape money. If you run from it, it will chase you and catch you. If we don't understand our relationship to money in this culture, then I think we're doomed. To be successful means to work hard and attain your highest goal, you don't have to go to school for this. The happiness of hard work. No amount of money can buy that.

Is Money Evil?

 http://www.newnusedlink.com
Money is not the root of evil, who ever said this sure did an evil job at spreading the rumour that still haunts the minds of many. How much money can you make? It depends upon how much money you have the confidence to make. Confidence stems from ability. The more able you are, the more you have invested in your education and personal growth, the more confident you are of your work. When people evade education and opportunities for growth, they not only lack confidence but also self-esteem. Money evades them and the lack of that creates bitterness towards it.
The money you earn should ideally be exchanged for services that aid your own evolution and that add to the well being of your family. Use money to buy happiness. Spend it in togetherness with your family, spend it in encouragement of your children’s dreams, spend it to care for your parents. When the money you earn does not serve you and your family’s wellbeing, then its misuse gives money a bad name. Using money for addictions, or investing it such that it causes you stress or spending it on devices that keep you distracted causes problems. When money is used as a substitute for love and nurturing, misery is guaranteed.
The broad purpose of mankind is to be creative and happy. And money is a resource for both. There is no greater joy than creation and there is no greater satisfaction than being a better person than you were yesterday.
Money should be used to expand ones horizons. Use your money for creating new skills, exploring new ideas, taking some risks. The banks are doing exactly that with your money anyways, why can’t you? lol
Money, like your thoughts, stems from your choices. Your choices define your character. A person, who has a shallow mind, will put money to shallower use.
When people use money for physical and spiritual abuse, it spells evil. When money traps you in its vicious cycle of slavery, it spells evil. Money is as evil as you think. Money is as spiritual as you put it to spiritual use for yourself and for others. Our choices define money's existence.

Is there a GOD?

 http://www.newnusedlink.com
Is there a God? This question is ask by asking a number of individuals, how did we get here???? 20th century science has demonstrated, with certainty, that the universe is not eternal; the universe had a beginning. Actually, mankind has contemplated this issue for centuries, long before science proved a beginning. In all that time, man has conceived of only two possible solutions -- either Someone made the world (God or another Creator, or the world made itself (The big bang - Evolution).
Unless we can demonstrate the world is capable of creating itself, God is the default. The incredible design that permeates all things implies a Designer. Natural laws (cause and effect, thermodynamics, gravity, etc.) imply a Lawgiver. Personal creatures imply a Personal Creator. Since everything we observe in the universe is an effect, there must have been a First Cause. Unless we are able to explain satisfactorily how each of these things exist, without resorting to a supernatural force, and find empirical evidence to support our conclusion, a Creator is default. Furthermore, any derived conclusion must be within the bounds of natural law, as natural law is a part of the universe and remains unbroken within the universe. What do you all think? Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but personally i believe there is a GOD.

The world of cheating

 http://www.newnusedlink.com
Results from many Adultery Survey in last year shows that once women decide to cheat, they are significantly more likely to play the field in search for love compared to cheating men, who report wanting sexual excitement, boredom with their marriage and the need for an ego boost as being the top reasons for being unfaithful. Now Women, on the other hand, are far more likely to list improving their self-esteem, romance and emotional fulfillment as the main reasons for cheating.Do you all believe this? yea right!!!
Female cheaters are also significantly more likely to fall in love with their extra-marital lovers than male adulterers with 57 percent of female participants report being in love with their current affair partner and only 27 percent of male participants reporting the love for their illicit lovers. This part is real funny to me lol like serious. However, female adulterers are also more likely to report still loving their spouse compared to men with 76 percent of female participants reporting that they still love their spouses compared to 67 percent of male participants.

Once they have made the huge decision to have an affair, women have far more opportunity to actually find someone to cheat with and are generally in control of deciding if and when to consummate the relationship once they do. It is a feature of all dating websites that women are spoilt for choice of male suitors,Researchers also found that women are more likely to be the first to think about cheating in a marriage. While male adulterers tend to have their first affair six years after marriage, the female adulterer will stray earlier, at five years into the marriage. This is why am not getting married, these signs are too obvious in todays society. Women who cheat also start cheating at a younger age compared to male cheaters with the average adulteresses starting at 37 compared to 42 for adulterers, according to the survey.
More and more neurological research is revealing that male and female brains are programmed differently when it comes to relationships. The results of the survey bear this out, with our adulteresses seemingly seeking something far more emotionally meaningful from their affairs than their male partners.”
Both male and female participants agreed to monogamy was an unnatural state for humans, even though the majority of cheaters claim to still love their spouse and more than 80 percent of both women and men cheating on their spouses intend to stay married. Its a cold world ya'll

Investing

 http://www.newnusedlink.com
In most economic books, investment is related to saving and deferring from ones consumption. Investment relates to many areas of our today's economy like financing whether for households, firms, or governments.
Most forms of investment involve some form of risk, such as investment in equities, property, and even fixed interest securities. In contrast putting money into something with a hope of short-term gain, with or without thorough analysis is definitely a gamble. All investments with equal risk should have the same expected rate of return but that does not prevent one from taking a chance in risky assets over the long term in the hope of benefiting from this trade off. In order for someone to have serious wealth one has to investing a lot of time and money both long-term and short term because having just one job will not cut it in today's society. Everyday cost of living goes up and we always want to keep up with the necessary trends, so invest wisely; read and do background checks on the company's you plan to invest in.
